This is a detailed how-to article teaching how to watch porn on VR headsets. If you’re looking for information on the best VR porn content for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, this would be the more fitting article to read: The Best VR Porn Sites for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive
If you’re reading this post, you’re probably frantically trying to find out how to watch VR porn with your Oculus Rift or HTC Vive (or if you’re really frantic, both!). If you’ve been searching for a while, you’re probably feeling pretty helpless and like you’ll never get it to work.
Well cut that shit out, because depending on where you’re at in the process, you’re probably only about 15-20 minutes from the best experience you’ve ever had with porn in your life.
Hypothetically, let’s assume regular porn is 10% as good as real-life sex. If that’s true, then VR porn (at least when it’s directed well) is at least 5x as good. Sure, good ol’ Rosie is probably your partner of choice (unless you’re a fancy gentleman wielding a Fleshlight), but HOLY CRAP this stuff is incredible.
So hang in there, and you’ll be “up” and running in no time.
How to Watch VR Porn: Choose Your Adventure
You really only need one of two methods to watch virtual reality porn on the Rift or the Vive: the easy way – which requires a premium app ($15), or the free way – which isn’t quite as foolproof ($0).
Either way, I’m going to skip ahead a bit in the process straight to the software download/setup. I’m assuming you know how to download video files to your computer, and as much as all of you would appreciate me boring you to tears so that you can use them as lubricant, I’m going to assume you’re in a hurry and get straight to the important details.
The Easiest (read: “not free”) Approach
This is my preferred method for watching VR porn. I don’t know why the hell it took me so long to find someone recommending it (maybe people just don’t discuss this stuff very openly), but I could have saved hours if I’d just found this suggestion first.
If you take this route, you should be up and running within 10 minutes, depending on your internet speed. You’ll also have a higher quality VR porn experience, as the video files won’t be stretched/distorted like they are in the free approach I’m outlining later.
Step 1: Install Steam and SteamVR if you haven’t yet. And in case you didn’t know this already, yes – Steam is compatible with the Oculus Rift as well.
Step 2: Purchase, download, and install Virtual Desktop on Steam ($14.99).
Step 3: Open Virtual Desktop by clicking Library > Software, then click “Virtual Desktop” in the left sidebar, and then click the blue “Launch” button.
You’ll get a popup like the one below. Just click “Launch”.
Important – If you’re using an Oculus Rift, select “Launch Virtual Desktop in Other VR Mode” and click “Launch”. If you’re using an HTC Vive for watching VR porn, click “Launch Virtual Desktop in Steam VR Mode” and click “Launch”.
If you’ve done everything correctly, you’ll see this popup open on your computer. If you put the headset on at this point, you should see Virtual Desktop running.
Step 4: Now let’s get that video file open. Go to the “Videos” section at the top of the settings page, select “Open File” towards the top, and navigate to the video file you want to watch. Select the file and click “Open”.
Whenever you move the mouse (if you want to scroll to a different point in the video or adjust the settings), the video navigator will display (seen below), but it’ll fade away if you don’t move the mouse for a couple seconds.
The nicest thing about using Virtual Desktop is that it almost always opens my VR porn with the correct default settings. And it doesn’t stretch/distort the videos like the free option I’ll outline next.
If for some reason the video isn’t displaying like you think it should, tweak the “Video Mode” and/or “Video Projection” settings on the video navigator and you should be able to get it playing as it was intended.
Oh, by the way, did I mention that by this point your VR porn is already streaming to the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive you’re using? You’re all done, boys! Stay hydrated and I’ll see you on the other side (make sure to wash your hands afterwards, you animal).
If you’re a cheap bastard that’s torrenting your VR porn, hey, no judgment here! I’m here to help you all the same!
The Cheapest (but not as foolproof) Approach
Alright, you’re making a couple of sacrifices to save $15 here. Namely, all videos are played in 360 degrees by default (many VR porn videos are only intended to be viewed in 180 degrees) which causes some distortion. This can also result in a little more eye strain at times.
But the porn experience is still awesome, and for $4 for Whirligig on Steam instead of $15 for Virtual Desktop, you can get some added features to help bridge the gap. Here’s how to watch VR porn on the Rift and Vive using Whirligig:
Step 1: Download the Whirligig installer here (free) or install the Whirligig app on Steam with added features ($3.99).
Step 2: If you’re going the 100% free route, there are a few more installation steps. They’re pretty straightforward, so feel free to skip through them like we do with pretty much all installers these days.
Just in case you find it helpful, here’s the step-by-step process of getting through the Whirligig installer.

Agree to Whirligig’s terms

Click next

Click install

Choose whether or not you want a Start Menu shortcut

Click to finish the Whirligig installer
Selecting the options above will launch Whirligig in your VR headset.

Whirligig’s instruction manual

Complete with Xbox One controller settings to the left…

And keyboard options to the right
Now you’re presented with an overwhelming amount of information, none of which you need to commit to memory thanks to the controls page on Whirligig’s website. Congrats! Whirligig is now installed, but you’re not quite done yet.
Step 3: Install the K-Lite codec pack so that you can play the majority of video files. Without it, you’ll encounter a lot of compatibility issues/error messages and not be able to watch many VR porn videos.
This installation process isn’t quite as straightforward as the Whirligig installer, and pay close attention toward the end because there are a couple of adware installs that you likely want to decline.
Start by downloading the Basic K-Lite codec pack here.
Choose one of the mirrors on the next page. I chose the first mirror, and was presented with the following download screen. I thought, “Which one of these do I click to download the file, and which will possibly destroy my computer?” Here’s the answer:

I know it looks spammy as hell, but it’s the correct button

Click “save file” then open the installer

The default “Normal” installation is fine, click next

You don’t need to change anything here, click “Next”

Again, nothing to change; click “Next”

Change your preferred language if applicable and click “Next”

Again the defaults here are fine, click “Next”

WARNING: You probably want to “Decline” this adware

And decline this adware as well

Now click “Install”

Check the “Run Codec Tweak Tool” and click “Finish” at the bottom

Your browser will spring open an “installation complete” confirmation; just insta-close it

Click “Preferred Decoders” in the Codec Tweak Tool

And change all options on the right to “LAV Video” all of the way down

Then click “Apply & Close”

And click “Exit”
That was a fun bit of hell, wasn’t it?! Don’t worry, we’re almost done… Restart Whirligig and let’s get your video file opened.
Step 4: Open your video using Whirligig. Refer to the Whirligig Controls page again to learn how to navigate the file explorer. With the Xbox One controller it’s a bit of a pain in the ass, because you have to scroll using head tracking and holding “A” on the scroll bar simultaneously.
Navigate to the correct folder and select the file you’d like to view:
Frequently upon opening Whirligig, you’ll get a hella weird display that makes your brain scream, “WHAT THE F**K IS HAPPENING?!!?”
Just hit ‘y’ on your keyboard or the Xbox One controller until things display in a normal (or semi-normal) fashion.

Notice that the video is still pretty “stretched” and distorted
This is as good as it’s going to get with the free version of Whirligig. The image above SHOULD look more like:

This image was captured in Virtual Desktop
This is because Whirligig’s free player only has the option for 360 degree video, and this file (like most VR porn videos on the internet right now) was recorded in 180 degree format.
If you pay $3.99 for Whirligig on Steam, you’ll have the option to view video files in 180 degrees.
So your options are to use the free version of Whirligig with the 360 degree “stretching” sacrifice, pay $3.99 for Whirligig on Steam to get the added features and watch VR porn videos in the format they were recorded in, or pay $14.99 for Virtual Desktop and get their foolproof, built-in video player along with being able to use your desktop in virtual reality.
Now Go Send Some Sailors Off to Sea!
Before you rush out, if you could leave a comment saying “thanks” to let me know you were here and that this guide helped you, that’d tickle me to death.
And the best way to say “thanks” is to check back here every once in a while to see what new VR porn sites and technology I’ve reviewed, and purchase through my links if you decide to join/buy a product. Those depressingly small commissions are what keep me funded and putting out helpful content like this!
Have fun guys, and don’t forget to remain aware of your surroundings! The last thing you want is for a friend or loved one to walk in on you while while you’re fapping your way into the future!
When it comes to the Oculus Rift (for now) the BaDoinkVR video player is also free, way easier to setup and use, and supports all the formats Virtual Desktop does. Don’t get me wrong, I love Virtual Desktop, but I thought your readers should know they don’t have to go through the tremendous hassle of setting up WhirliGig if they have a Rift and want to avoid it. More info here: http://badoinkvr.com/help/oculus
Sadly the main player window has ads at the bottom, but they don’t show up in VR or play sound or anything, so not a terrible tradeoff since it’s free.
Thank you very much for the tip! I’ll have to check it out and amend this post sometime in the near future. Cheers!
Thanks for writing the guide. I’d like to offer some comments and ask some questions:
Have you been able to get Virtual Desktop to play fisheye content correctly? I.e, so that you don’t get “pinching” at the top and bottom like you do when you play fisheye-distorted content through a barrel projection? I haven’t been able to find a setting where you can choose if the content is barrel- och fisheye-distorted.
Virtual Desktop will install and work fine on Windows 7, but it will not play video. At least not most videos. It works just fine on Windows 10 though.
Whirligig is the only player (that I know of) where you can play both fisheye- and barrel-distorted content. It also has gives you the ability to tweak the zoom, field-of-view and stereo separation through keyboard shortcuts, and being able to fast-forward or rewind the video with the gamepad without having an interface overlay pop up to block the center of the screen (as it does when forwarding on Virtual Desktop) is really convenient.
Hey Karl! I agree – I don’t believe Virtual Desktop currently has the ability to play fisheye/barrel-distorted videos. Whirligig is the best I know for those types of videos. Thank you very much for sharing your experiences and insight!
Oh, Virtual Desktop plays barrel-distorted video just fine. That’s what BaDoink, CzechVR and WankzVR all use in their productions. What Virtual Desktop currently can’t handle is fisheye-distortion, such as Naughty America’s videos. Those will look pinched at the top and bottom and strangely bulging in the middle when played through barrel-projection.
Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification!
Virtual Desktop gives you a free key for Oculus Home. Just right click in your Steam library and select View CD Key. You can then redeem it in Oculus Home and then you don´t have to use Steam at all.
Sure you can buy VD directly from Oculus Home, but this way you get it on both platforms.
Thanks for sharing that tip!
Whirligig’s free player support 180° since always !
you need to pause the video and change 360 to 180 on the little menu
The BaDoink player is the best I’ve encountered in terms of ease of use. However I don’t think there’s a way to zoom out the video and control the tilt with BaDoink.
But I don’t mind – the drag-and-drop operation counts for a lot.
You can get more control with the VirtualRealPlayer but that thing has been so buggy for me – it often won’t load the videos for some reason.
Thanks a lot for the input, man! I keep hearing good things about the BaDoink player – I’ll have to check it out and amend this post once I do!
Worked great, thanks man.

Not just for boys! 😉
I’ve tried them all. Virtual Desktop is a mess. Whirlygig is ok. If you’re a Vive user, do yourself a favor and just get Simple Video player VR. http://simplevr.pro
Great interface, quick switchable SBS, top down, 180, 360 fisheye modes.
Any good player should make it easy to zoom in and most frequently out due to horrible scale issues with some studios. Giant models anyone?
And tilt the image to suit the intended position i.e. Sitting, standing or laying down.
Pro tip: Wanks and especially Czech VR have the best scaling and camera positions. Gold standard content.
Back to simple vid player VR.
-It’s mouse and keyboard free
-Full transport options for pause, forward and back with just a click of the Vives d pad, in full screen without an annoying menus pop up to click.
-Super sampling slider in app as well as an enhanced sharpen mode button that really cleans soft video up.
-multiple codec options fdshow etc.
Try it.
Cheers
hi the page for klite has changed and the download button for klite is gone and has been replaced with windows back dates
